SEDIMENTARY STONES
Sedimentary Stone came from organic elements such as glaciers, rivers, and plants. Tiny sedimentary pieces broke off from these elements and accumulated to form rock beds and bonded through millions of years of heat and pressure. Our range of Sedimentary Stones includes the following products.
1. Limestone
Mainly consisting of Calcite which produces the classic pale colours so in demand, our limestone are sourced throughout the world to reflect a timeless elegance that enhance both modern and traditional interiors.
2. Sandstone
Sandstone texture reflects the sedimentary nature of this hardwearing stone. Fine quartz grains (sand) bonded together with minerals such as Silica, Clay and Iron Oxide ensures these stones are slip resistant, even when wet. Soft to dramatic hues can be utilized to make a lasting impression. The pyramids of Egypt stand as a monument to Sandstones lasting durability and beauty.
3. Travertine
An anomaly, somewhere between a limestone and marble, this stone is characterized by its distinctive holed appearance caused by hot springs coming up through rock beds. From the coliseum in Rome to the present day Travertine has a history of beauty and durability. Our range has been carefully selected to appeal to all tastes, from the subtle yet classical to the vibrant appearance of the more coloured stones. The choice is yours.
METAMORPHIC STONE
Metamorphic stone originates from a natural change from one type of stone to another type through the mixture of extreme heat and pressure. The change may be a development of a crystalline formation, a texture change, or a colour change. Our range of Metamorphic Stones include the following products.
1. Marble
A recrystallised limestone available in a multitude of exciting and beautiful colours, highly workable to achieve limitless applications from floor and wall tiles to vanity and counter tops. Marble has been a constant point of reference for every civilizations most important constructions throughout the centuries.
2. Slate
This fine grained stone formed from shale, sedimentary rocks and clay formed over millions of years is as popular today as it was in a bygone era of the industrial revolution when the first large scale mining started. Since then slate has been mined in every corner of the globe producing colours and textures that can appeal to the traditionalist and the modernist alike.
IGNEOUS STONE
Igneous stones are mainly formed through volcanic material such as magma. Deep in the earths crust, liquid magma cooled and solidified. Mineral gasses and liquids penetrated the stone and created new crystalline formations with various colours. Our range of Igneous Stones includes the following products.
1. Granite
Granite is renowned for its hardness and durability with good cause. Difficult to work unless you have the correct machinery, granite can be polished to a high shine and can lift any application with the various colours, from striking black to a myriad of other natural colours. Granite is a product that can be relied upon to exceed expectations of durability in any application.
2. Quartzite
As the name suggests the primary composition is quartz with other minerals such as schist. Easier to work by hand than granite, Quartzite can be split by hand tools to create tiles with tremendous character and slip resistance. Ideal for all interior and exterior work.
CLAY
Although not a stone, it can be a component of some stones, specifically Sandstone and Slate and therefore deserves a place in our natural collection of floor tiles. Our range of Clay Tiles include the following products.
1. Handmade Terracotta
Mineral clays processed and produced in a time-honoured fashion lend their rich natural colours to create a feeling of warmth and strength. Terracotta tiles can be used extensively in interior and, subject to climatic conditions, exterior applications.
2. Machine Made Terracotta
Refined Clays are extruded to produce denser tiles with less colour variation and an even surface, thus creating a more modern appearance than the traditional handmade variety of Terracotta.
OTHER PRODUCTS
1. Cobblestones
South African Granite Cobbles with four hand-chiselled edges provide excellent resistance to wear and atmospheric agents. Granite Cobbles are suitable for exterior areas of high foot and vehicle traffic.
2. Listellos
With a choice of designs and sizes you can customize your Listello by choosing combinations of products from our range to create unique features and borders that will complement your choice of tiles perfectly.
